Anime [edit]

On June 23, 2016, publisher Ichijinsha announced that the series would receive an anime television series accommodation.[35] [36] The anime is produced by Silvery Link and directed by Mirai Minato, with Michiko Yokote supervising the scripts, and Yokote and Kento Shimoyama writing the scripts, featuring grapheme designs by Yūki Sawairi.[37] Toshiki Kameyama is the serial' sound managing director while Lantis produced the music.[3] The opening theme is "Wagamama Mirror Heart" ( ワガママMIRROR Center , "Selfish Mirror Heart" ) performed by Ayaka Ohashi, and the ending theme is "Elemental World" performed by ChouCho.[3] The AT-10 broadcast uses the song "Manazashi Silent" ( まなざしサイレント , Manazashi Sairento , "Silent Gaze") as its ending theme; information technology was sung past Ohashi and Suzuko Mimori under their corresponding character names Aki Adagaki and Neko Fujinomiya.[38] The series aired from January 5 to March 23, 2017. It was broadcast on Tokyo MX, AT-X, and BS Fuji.[3] The anime ran for 12 episodes and was released beyond half-dozen BD/DVD volumes.[39] Crunchyroll streamed and licensed the series,[2] while Funimation produced an English dub.[40] An OVA of the series has been released[41] and tells an "later story" for the manga.[10]

On April two, 2022, a second flavor titled Masamune-kun's Revenge R was appear.[42]

Reception [edit]

Reviewing the first volume, Rebecca Silverman of Anime News Network stated that the combination of revenge one-act and romance was "working thus far". She felt that Aki'southward servant was the well-nigh interesting character, but too enjoyed Masamune, especially how he had to "think nigh the correct response for each state of affairs he finds himself in". She chosen Aki "utterly detestable", and noted that information technology would be difficult for the serial to turn around and make her a romantic interest. She wrote that the art was bonny, simply noted that the drawings of women were oft anatomically incorrect.[43]

The anime serial' first episode received poor reviews from Anime News Network's staff during the Winter 2017 season previews. Theron Martin enjoyed the series the most, stating that with the clichés he should have hated the beginning episode, but instead he constitute information technology quite entertaining. Other staffers weren't so positive. Nick Creamer called it a "fairly generic romcom premiere starring a very repugnant cast", while Bamboo Dong claimed information technology was "a plain piece of toast smeared with unresolved childhood memories of rejection" and complained about how males are portrayed every bit hapless victims of the heartless women. Jacob Chapman called the comedy "dehumanizing" and the episode was non engaging. Paul Jensen was more positive in that he establish the story and characters were unusual enough to be interesting, but he had mixed feelings as he was non certain what the series wanted to be. Silverman states that the episode walks a fine line between one-act and cruelty and her strong dislike of Aki is definitely coloring this episode for her.[44]

Fellow ANN editor Lauren Orsini chose Masamune-kun'southward Revenge equally her option for the Worst Anime of 2017, criticizing its "excessive cruelty" being delivered by the two main leads and the residual of the bandage, concluding that, "This anime should only be viewed equally an example of how non to win friends and influence people. The all-time revenge is a life well lived, every bit in, non Masamune's approach".[45]
